Braderie de Lille opening times: stalls, shops, bars and cars all keep different hours
The City of Lille announces 34 hours non-stop, France 3 reported a break at midnight, Lille Tourism gives other hours again, and the bars have their own by-law. This table puts each set of hours in its place, edition by edition, so you know what is open when you arrive.
The Braderie de Lille does not have one set of opening times, it has four. There are the stalls' hours, set by the City; the hours of shops and visitor information points; the hours of bars and terraces, set by municipal order; and the hours for cars, which start well before and end well after.
This page sets them side by side for the 2026 edition, compares them with earlier editions where they are documented, and flags the places where the sources disagree.
What are the official opening times of the braderie?
The City of Lille set the 2026 edition from Saturday 5 September at 8am to Sunday 6 September at 6pm, a claimed 34 hours. These are the reference hours, repeated by the tourist office and by most of the press.
The next edition is set for Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September 2027. Its hours have not yet been published by the City.
A regional listings magazine announces 8am to midnight on Saturday and 8am to 6pm on Sunday, which does not match the non-stop format and which nothing official confirms. The calendar rule is on our page on the braderie dates.
Do the stalls stay open all night?
Officially, yes: that is what the 34 hours mean. In practice, the sources differ. France 3 reported that in 2026 the stalls closed at midnight on Saturday, reopening at 8am on Sunday, which contradicts the non-stop format.
Both versions may hold at once: the City sets a window during which selling is allowed, not an obligation to be there. Many residents pack up at nightfall and come back in the morning. Turn up at 2am and you will find lively streets and pavements that are partly empty.
A third set of hours is in circulation: Lille Tourism lists Friday 2pm to 7pm, Saturday 10am to 7pm, Sunday 9am to 6pm. These are the hours of its information points and of some shops, not those of the braderie: mixing them up means arriving two hours late on Saturday.
How late do bars, restaurants and terraces stay open?

In 2026, amplified music was tolerated until 2am. For Sunday terraces, two sources published the same year contradict each other: 11pm according to Lilleaddict, midnight according to the City. In 2024, terraces closed at 2am on Saturday night and 11pm on Sunday.
These times are ceilings. A restaurant allowed to stay open until 5am does not necessarily serve food in the middle of the night, and may even close for the whole weekend. We cover this gap on our page on restaurants closed during the braderie.
The braderie is a night-time event too: in 2026 bars could stay open until 5am on Saturday night, and the metro ran without a break from 5am on Saturday to 12:30am on Sunday. A room within walking distance of the centre lets you stay out late without worrying about getting back. For 2027, the dates are known and rooms are still at normal prices.

The children's braderie, at the former Gare Saint-Sauveur, was held on Saturday 5 September from 8am to 7pm in 2026. So it does not follow the main braderie through the night, and it does not open on Sunday.
The City counted 90 stalls and nearly 18,500 visitors in 2026, against 68 stalls and 23,878 admissions in 2024. More stalls, fewer visitors: the City does not comment on the gap.
The comics braderie (braderie de la BD), at the Palais des Beaux-Arts, kept these hours in 2023: 10am to 7pm on Saturday, 10am to 6pm on Sunday. No more recent hours have been found. The museum itself is closed on the braderie weekend, both museum and garden, according to its information page.
From what time are cars shut out?
Well before the stalls open. In 2026, driving and parking were banned within the perimeter from Friday 4 September at 7pm to Monday 7 September at 1am. Car parks inside the perimeter stay locked from Friday 7pm to Monday 6am (2024 figure): a car that goes in before cannot come out.
The metro, meanwhile, ran without a break from 5am on Saturday to 12:30am on Sunday. Those are the hours that matter if you are staying outside the centre, or if you drive in and leave the car at one of the sites described on our page on Lille's park-and-ride car parks.

None of these times rests on a count. Neither the City nor the police publish attendance by time of day: these are observations from the press and from regulars, to be taken as trends.
Sunday morning, when the streets breathe again: a good moment for a guided tour or a climb up the belfry, before heading back to the stalls. Slots for the braderie weekend can be booked online, often with free cancellation.

They do not say who is actually there. No source records the stalls closed at night, the shops that stay shut or the restaurants that are full. The official map, on our page on the braderie map, shows the sectors, not the hours when sellers are present.
Nor do they give the exact hours of the 2023 to 2025 editions in a single source: we only give what has been found, with its year. For 2027, only the date is official.
