Restaurants closed during the Braderie de Lille: why being allowed to open is not the same as opening
Lille's bars and restaurants may open until 5am during the braderie, yet some close for the whole weekend. The permitted hours, their limits, and how to avoid being left without a table on Saturday night.
During the Braderie de Lille, a closed restaurant is nothing unusual. The City publishes permitted hours, and generous ones, but no list of the places that are open, and none of them commits to those hours.
This page explains the gap between what is allowed and what is served, gives the times when you can find a table, and the options when the place you had in mind has pulled down its shutters.
Why do restaurants close during the Braderie de Lille?
Because permission to open obliges nobody to do so. A restaurant may stay shut for lack of staff, for lack of deliveries in an area closed to vehicles, because it prefers not to face the crowds, or simply because the owners are on holiday.
Logistics weigh heavily. In 2026, the perimeter was closed to traffic from Friday 4 September at 7pm to Monday 7 September at 1am: a restaurant not delivered to before Friday evening works with what it has in stock. Some cut their menu to one or two dishes, others prefer to close.
No source records these closures. Neither the City, the tourist office nor the press publishes a register of places open over the weekend, and the hours shown online are rarely updated for the occasion.
How late can restaurants serve?
In 2026, venues could open until 3am on Friday night, 5am on Saturday night and 1am on Sunday night. For terraces on Sunday evening, Lilleaddict gives 11pm and the City midnight: we show both.
A place open at 4am is a bar, rarely a kitchen. Kitchens close at their usual time or a little later, and no source publishes food service hours. The other hours, stalls and traffic included, are on our page on the braderie opening times.
When can you find a table during the braderie?
La Voix du Nord advises avoiding the 12:30pm to 1:30pm slot and aiming to eat before 11:30am or after 3pm. City-centre restaurants serve all day that weekend, which makes these off-peak times workable.
The two riskiest slots are Saturday evening, then Sunday lunchtime. At the most visible places on the Grand'Place, waits of 30 to 60 minutes before being seated are common at those times: this is an observation, as no restaurant publishes the figure.
Eating properly on Saturday night: a room a little way out, near a metro station, gives you access to neighbourhood restaurants running as normal. The metro, however, does not run all night: its continuous service runs from 5am on Saturday to 12:30am on Sunday. The 2027 dates are known: Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September 2027.

- Call, don't read. An online listing shows the hours of an ordinary week. Only the restaurant knows whether it will open, with which menu and until what time.
- Book where you can. Many restaurants do not take bookings that weekend, but those that do are the only ones you can count on.
- Have a back-up outside the perimeter. Neighbourhoods outside the closed zone run as on a normal weekend and are easy to reach by metro.
- Rely on street food. In 2026, 18 extra food trucks were announced, on top of the chip stalls and cargo-bike vendors, whose operators pay for their pitches.
Payment methods vary: private stalls often prefer cash, while shops and restaurants generally take cards. No common rule is published.
How much does a meal cost during the braderie?
The only price survey available dates from 2024 and covers moules-frites (mussels and chips): €10.90 to €12.90 on the Grand'Place, €16.90 to €21.90 around Rihour. No survey has been published for 2026.

What is missing to plan properly?
First, a register of open restaurants: there isn't one. Then, a count of unplanned closures or of dishes running out: no source measures them. Finally, restaurant takings over the weekend, which are published nowhere.
