Braderie de Lille dates: the first-weekend-of-September rule and its one exception

The next Braderie de Lille takes place on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September 2027. The announcement comes from the City of Lille, on its Braderie page updated on 9 September 2026, three days after the 2026 edition ended.

The date follows a simple rule, the weekend of the first Sunday in September, which has been broken only once in five years. This page sets out the rule, the editions that bear it out, and the opening hours on which the sources disagree.

The City of Lille announces Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September 2027. It has not yet given the opening hours, and nothing else is out: no map of the area, no traffic plan, no registration calendar for stallholders.

A regional listings magazine, JDS, went further in an article of 26 August 2026, giving 8am to midnight on Saturday and 8am to 6pm on Sunday. That version breaks with the 34 hours of non-stop trading the City claims every year, and no official source confirms it.

We set out both versions without choosing between them. What is certain: a Saturday and a Sunday in early September. What remains open: the Saturday night.

The date is known a year ahead: this is the only moment when a hotel in the centre can be booked at its normal rate, with free cancellation. Holding a cancellable room now costs nothing, and you can still adjust it later.

What rule sets the date of the Braderie?

The weekend of the first Sunday in September, with stalls open from 8am on Saturday to 6pm on Sunday. The rule is stated by the City and by Wikipedia, and six editions bear it out.

EditionDatesNote
2022Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September 2022return after two years of cancellation
2023Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 September 2023standard format
2024Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September 2024pushed back by two weeks
2025Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 September 2025back to the first weekend
2026From Saturday 5 September at 8am to Sunday 6 September at 6pm34 hours claimed
2027Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September 2027opening hours not published

The exception is 2024. The Braderie moved back two weeks because of the Paris Games: one source points to the Olympics, another to the Paralympics, whose closing ceremony fell on 8 September. Both say the same thing, that the police and security forces were needed elsewhere, and we cite them both.

To plan beyond 2027 without an official announcement, the rule points to the first weekend in September. It is a pattern, not a promise: 2024 showed that one national event is enough to shift it.

What are the Braderie opening hours?

Residents' stall on a Lille pavement during the Braderie, a blanket spread on the ground with toys and clothes, a family on camping chairs in front of a brick doorway

Stalls open from 8am on Saturday to 6pm on Sunday, with no official break: that is what the 34 hours mean. In practice, some stallholders set up on Friday evening, when the area closes to cars, and many pack away during the night.

Around that core, each edition sets its own side events. The children's braderie, at the Gare Saint-Sauveur, ran on Saturday 5 September from 8am to 7pm in 2026. The comic book braderie, at the Palais des Beaux-Arts, ran 10am to 7pm on Saturday, 10am to 6pm on Sunday in 2023.

Bars and terraces are governed by a prefectoral order, and their hours change from year to year. In 2023, bars closed at 2am on the Friday night, stayed open all Saturday night and closed at 1am on the Sunday night. In 2024, terraces closed at 2am and then 11pm.

Road traffic has its own timetable, longer than the stalls'. In 2026 the area was closed to vehicles from Friday 4 September at 7pm to Monday 7 September at 1am. Car parks inside the area stay locked for longer, from Friday 7pm to Monday 6am in 2024, and street parking is banned from 1am on the Friday.

One source gives a Monday reopening at 1am, another at 5am depending on the year: the exact time is in each edition's official order, not in a guidebook. Access details are in parking in Lille and the park and ride car parks.

When do you need to register to run a stall?

Well before September. In 2024, stallholder registration was open from 12 June to 23 August 2024, online on the City's platform or at the counter at 5 rue Jules de Vicq, open Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, Saturday from 9am to noon.

A stall is free for residents of Lille, Hellemmes and Lomme and for Lille shopkeepers. Traders from outside and food stalls paid €267 in 2026, with payment due by 30 June. The full scale of charges by category is not published anywhere.

Visitors need no registration at all: entry is free. What the Braderie is, and what it costs once you are there, is covered in our page on the Braderie de Lille.

Why book your accommodation as soon as the date is known?

Narrow street in Vieux-Lille at dusk, brick façades with closed shutters and a single lit window

Because Braderie weekend is when Lille is full. An MKG study quoted by Bpifrance gave, for a past edition, 80.7% occupancy from Friday to Sunday and 98.8% on the Saturday night. In 2024, France Bleu reported more than 80% on the Saturday.

Prices follow: mark-ups of 60 to 120% were recorded in 2024, with a budget room in the centre at €160 to €250 a night against €70 to €110 a night in the off season. Districts outside the Braderie area hold their prices better, as shown in our comparison of where to stay by district.

A year ahead is the right reflex: a cancellable room booked as soon as the dates are announced is paid at the rate of an ordinary week. The same room in August 2027 will cost the Braderie rate, if it is still available.

What is still to be confirmed for 2027?

First, the Saturday night hours: midnight according to JDS, non-stop according to tradition, nothing yet from the City. Then the map of the area and the road closure times, which usually come out only in the summer. Finally, the stallholder registration calendar and the fee for professional stalls.

We will update this page when the City publishes. Until then, the only firm information is the one at the top of the page: Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September 2027.
